Izzy and Kael's Washington Adventures

Did you know that in Washington there is a city of Forks?

When Izzy and Kael learned they were going to forks they were so excited.

Izzy expected lots of tall silver fork trees, maybe they would have cake on them?

Kael couldn't wait for a forest where the trees rain all the time, a rain forest sounds awesome!

They were both were surprised to learn it was just another town, and it was famous for something much different.

Forks is a small logging town surrounded by rain forest on the Olympic Peninsula between the Olympic Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

It's the town where a little series of books called Twilight was written about.

If you go there you will find the school, houses and even Bella's red truck.

It's locked. We checked.

Did you know that in Seattle there is a Farmer's Market and lot of other stuff?

Izzy and Kael thought they were going to buy a Farmers. They didn't know why their Moms wanted to buy a farmer, but if it meant they didn't have to clean the barn anymore they were in!

But they found themselves in Seattle at a big open market called Pike's Place, a public market with lots and lots of people. The market is famous for a fish counter, they throw the fish at you if you want one. Those fish must have wings; they really fly! Looks like Izzy caught dinner.

The market has something else that is famous. The first Starbucks! This place is so busy they waited in line for a half hour, and they didn't even get coffee. However, they did get treats.

Even though they did not buy a farmer on their trip to Pike's Place Market, Mom bought them cake pops, and cake pops are delicious.

Then they found the gum wall. It became famous in the early 90's when people waiting in line for the movies stuck their gum on the wall. This caught on and more and more people stuck their gum on the wall.

This was Izzy's favorite! She is not allowed to have gum, but this day she had so much to choose from. She plucked her favorite colors as they walked by.

They did not walk back the same way.

But Izzy and Kael were inspired to start a gum wall of their own. If only they had a way to get gum.

Kael's favorite thing in Seattle is the troll that lives under the bridge. The troll is so big there is a whole Volkswagen Bug in his hand, but that car was locked too. They settled for climbing on his shoulder for a picture and leaving a kiss on his cheek.

Troll's aren't so scary, cause it's ok to be different.

Next they visited the Space Needle. You can ride the elevator all the way to the top! It's a long way up and there is a restaurant at the top that rotates round and round. They serve cake.

There is an observation deck you can walk around and see Seattle at 360 degrees. You can't push your brother off the top.

But Seattle is still fun.

Before they left Seattle they visited the Sound Garden. It's a real place, not just a band. This place is a group of sculptures on a hill in a park that when the wind blows makes music. It inspired the band and inspired Izzy and Kael to whistle and sing all the way home. Maybe they should have a band too?

It was a long drive.

Did you know in Washington there's a bridge called Galloping Gertie?

The Narrows bridge was built in 1940, and at the time it was the 3rd longest suspension bridge in the world. When they were building the bridge, it would sway and move with the wind. Four months after it opened to the public there was a big wind storm and it twisted and bucked! It fell down and would not be rebuilt for 10 years due to the war.

This may be the reason Kael and Izzy don't like bridges. And why Kael is considering being a structural engineer when he turns 12.

In Prosser Washington there is a Gravity Hill.

This is a place where things roll up! It's super spooky, they say it's aliens or paranormal activity. Izzy and Kael like aliens and looked all over to try to find one. They put several balls on the hill and watched them climb up and begged the moms to put the car in neutral and sure enough it rolled uphill too. They learned it was a optical illusion, but also heard the building at the top is haunted. They decided to come back when they're older. They like aliens but aren't so sure about ghosts.

In the Pacific Northwest there are Bigfoots!

Izzy and Kael searched and searched for a Bigfoot. There are a lot of forests in Washington, a lot of trees for Bigfoots to hide.

Izzy and Kael finally found one! When they tried to capture it, and steal it's shoe ...Mom said give her shoe back.

There are volcanos in Washington!

Izzy and Kael visited Mt St. Helens, a real live volcano. Mt St Helens erupted in 1980. Things are growing back now, but they learned a lot exploring the museum and seeing what happened right where they were standing. They learned a lot of people had to be brave, and natural disasters can happen anywhere.

After all these adventures Izzy and Kael; and especially their moms; were exhausted. They went home and ate lava cake and fell asleep dreaming about their next adventure.....
