T'was the evening before Christmas, and all through the house...Kael was stirring, NOT quiet as a mouse.

The stocking's weren't stuffed cause some kids couldn't sleep.

 The cookies were out for Santa,  till Izzy found those treats.

The presents were still hid, not placed under the tree.

Because two little kids just would not catch some Zzzzz's.

 So Mom's tried to wrap them, send them back to Amazon. She plopped them in boxes while she made the call. The mail man was coming, he was on his way - UNLESS THEY FELL ASLEEP.

So one last story,  about how it's JUST one more sleep.. close your eyes and dream little dreams.

It's always fun to try something new.  Kael and Izzy got to do just that today.

Sometimes it's frustrating, and hard, and you just think you will never be able to do it.

You find your self skiing down the mountain like a pro.

So when things get tough.  And you think you will never figure it out, and you are broken and bruised from falling down...but then you get it.  There's nothing like that feeling of success!

The oldest record of a decorated Christmas tree came from a 1605 diary found in Strasburg, France (Germany in 1605). The tree was decorated with paper roses, apples and candies.

Mark Carr brought trees from the Catskills to the streets of New York in 1851, and opened the first retail Christmas tree lot in the United States.

Franklin Pierce was the first president to introduce the Christmas tree to the White House in 1856 for a group of Washington Sunday School children. The first national Christmas Tree was lighted in the year 1923 on the White House lawn by President Calvin Coolidge.

In 2017 Izzy and Kael Starshine started the tradition of hanging your Rudolphed nose on the tree. They will carry this tradition on for many years to come.

The first working model trains were not "Christmas" trains, they were not even toys. They were powered by steam models that required a certain amount of skill and patience to operate safely. Kael's favorite part of Christmas decorating is putting up the train set. He gets to build the track and carefully unwrap and put together the train. Mama plugs it in and he gets to turn it on. The train chugs and circles under the lights of the tree, and he can watch that train for hours.

So many traditions to make and remember and enjoy and create!

Run, run, fast as you can,
You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man!

Is cookie decorating part of your tradition? Kael and Izzy followed the recipe below and baked this awesome house! It is so much fun to bake with your family.  Try the recipe below and let us know how your ginger bread turns out!

Ingredients

¾ cup unsulphured molasses
¾ cup butter
¾ cup dark brown sugar
4 ½ cups flour, plus more for rolling surface
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
½ tsp baking soda
3 ½ tsp ground ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1 egg, lightly beaten
• Royal icing (optional)
  Sprinkles, cinnamon candies, or any other decorations of your choice (optional)

Directions
1. In a medium saucepan, heat the molasses to the simmering point. Remove from the heat and stir in the butter until it melts. Stir in the brown sugar. Allow to cool.

2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, ginger and cinnamon. Add the cooled molasses and the egg to the flour mixture and mix very well until a dough forms. You may need to use your hands to really incorporate the wet mixture into the dry mixture. 

3. Wrap dough in wax or parchment paper and chill for 1-2hours, or until firm enough to roll.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Transfer chilled dough to a lightly floured rolling surface and roll out the dough to one-quarter inch thickness. Roll out a quarter of the dough at a time.

5. Cut cookies with your choice of cookie cutter. I chose a traditional gingerbread man, but you can get creative with any kind of cookie cutter you’d like.

6. Transfer cut dough to a baking sheet that has been lightly greased with nonstick cooking spray or lined with a silicone baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 12-15 minutes. The cookies will puff up, but won’t spread much.

7. Cool completely on a rack before decorating with royal icing, decorative sprinkles and candies.

Tips/Techniques

You will also need: medium saucepan, large mixing bowl, sifter, wax or parchment paper, rolling pin, cookie cutter(s) of your choice, baking sheet, nonstick cooking spray or silicone baking sheet.

Don't forge the Christmas carols when you are waiting for your cookies to bake!

What is your family Christmas sock tradition?  We always got an orange in the toe, a few really big nuts, those life saver books that had the delicious butter rum lifesavers. I hated those as a kid, but would love to find as a adult. We found some other candy treats and things like toothbrushes, bubbles, a slinky, and silly putty.  The sock was always a favorite part of our holiday tradition.

Kael and Izzy got new Christmas socks to hang today and Mom could not resist capturing a memory while they were both clean, and smiling.

Did you know how the tradition of hanging socks to fill with goodies started?  It is told that, a very poor family hung their only socks to dry by the fire on Christmas eve. The family was very proud and would not accept any help.  Santa knew they needed some help, and tossed some gold coins in the window and right into those socks to help the family out and the kids found the gold coins the next morning when they put on their clean dry socks. They were very thankful for the magic of the season.

Izzy and Kael can not wait till Christmas morning. They at dreaming of all the goodies that Santa will stuff in those socks.

The twin's Moms always make them help pick out stuff they would like in their sock so they can help Santa help families in need. Moms say the twins should pick out something they think other kids would like and then they spend an evening packing Christmas socks to donate to other kids.  They always make this a fun evening of cocoa, treats, and Christmas music.

They still are excited for their socks they will get, but are much more happy to be helping others find some holiday cheer.

Yuletide Noes!

Izzy was told, don't touch the tree!

Izzy tried really, really hard to not touch the tree.

But Kael was busy writing his letter to Santa, and Izzy had NOTHING to do.

So, she thought she would just help a little, to decorate that tree.

She was going to put the top on!  Yep, yep.  What could go wrong?

She pulled out a ladder and wiggled it right by that tree.

She found the pretty star topper and climbed her way up high atop the ladder.

Then it wiggled, and wobbled, but she was ALMOST there, and she reached and leaned a little more.......and then, before she knew it, she was falling with the tipping tree right on top of Kael.

This did not turn out how she planned. She just wanted to be the one to put the to on the tree. She just needed something to do.  It's Kael's fault because he was writing his letter and not playing with her.  If he would have been helping the tree would not have fallen, right on top of him! So it's his fault.

Right?

Well, she tried that.  She pointed at him and tried to plead her case to her Mom.

And it didn't work, and once again Kael got Izzy's late night snack.

So, even if you have nothing to do.  EVEN if you really want to be the one to put the top on the tree.  Even if you think you can do it all by yourself.

If your Mom told you not to,  DON'T.... or you might hear something like "you could have really hurt your brother" and "this is why we follow rules" and "bad behavior is not rewarded"

Those fresh sugar cookies sure smelled good.
