Fireflies: Mom calls these lightning bugs, she said they are really beetles. Fireflies are talking when they light up, they are looking for other lighting bug friends to hang out with. Their babies glow too. This is where "glow worms" come from. They glow to protect themselves from predators. Fireflies love escargot and sometimes eat each other! Some girl fireflies mimic the flashing of the boys to trick them into coming over to play and just when they get close enough, THEY EAT THEM!

Butterflies: Mama said butterflies are really moths. They have lots of life cycles. They are eggs, then a caterpillars, then they wrap themselves up and stay warm till they turn into butterflies. These butterflies are so pretty but are very confused. Some species are pests, some pollinate, some are food for others, and some eat harmful insects. I wonder what the red ones do that Izzy is playing with below? Maybe they eat fireflies, or brothers?
Trike Riders: Trike riders are a curious breed. They make noise, are often dirty, sticky and usually missing a shoe. The girls usually run over the boys when they get in their way. Sometimes trike riders have a horn on their trikes that warns others that they are approaching. Some have tassels that flap in the wind. If trike riders pedal fast enough and take their feet off the pedals, they an keep going for a long time, unless they run into something... like a brother. These trike riders are usually only seen in the daytime, and tend to hibernate in the evenings for things like dinner and bath time and cartoons. If you see these trike riders, do not attempt to capture them. Their Moms are protective and known to harm predators.
